Moon Sighted As Saudi Arabia Announces Date For Ramadan Fasting

A passenger crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan has been sighted in Saudi Arabia.

Following the observation, authorities in the kingdom confirmed that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will mark the first day of the holy month.

The moon sighting took place in Hawtat Sudair and Tumair, located in Al-Majma’ah Governorate.

Observers at Al Hareeq Observatory reported that the weather conditions were clear, making it possible to spot the crescent shortly after sunset at 5:52 p.m.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is regarded as the most sacred month for Muslims.

It marks the time when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) during the Night of Decree, Laylat Al Qadr, which falls in the last ten nights of the month.

During Ramadan, Muslims dedicate themselves to fasting from dawn to sunset, engaging in prayers, reflection, and acts of charity.
