The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the sale of nomination forms to aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the activation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for political parties to upload candidates.
Speaking during the party’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, the party’s National Leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared that the PDP was fully prepared for the 2027 elections and urged members to focus on mobilization rather than complaints.
Wike stressed that political power is never handed over freely but must be earned through determination, organization, and hard work.
According to him, party members should return to their constituencies, strengthen the PDP’s grassroots structures, and deliver electoral victories instead of depending on others.
He reminded members that the party is no longer in power and must work harder to reclaim leadership, noting that every stakeholder must contribute meaningfully to the party’s success.
“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You must struggle and fight for it. Don’t come to this party empty-handed. Every NEC member must bring something to the table, whether it is a House of Representatives seat, a State Assembly seat, or any other electoral victory,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor also expressed confidence that the party’s internal leadership issues would soon be resolved, noting that INEC’s issuance of access codes to political parties for candidate uploads would affirm the PDP’s legitimate leadership.
He dismissed concerns over ongoing court cases involving the party, insisting that legal battles would not distract the PDP from preparing for the elections.
“We are not afraid of the courts. While others continue with litigation, we will continue preparing for the elections. The worst has already happened, and now we are moving forward,” he stated.
Earlier, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed commended party leaders and members for their commitment to unity and internal democracy, describing the successful conduct of party primaries across states as evidence of the PDP’s dedication to fairness and transparency.
Mohammed also reaffirmed the party’s confidence in INEC’s ability to conduct free, fair, and credible elections while calling on members to remain united ahead of the 2027 polls.
Similarly, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, thanked party leaders and stakeholders for their continued support and apologized for the postponement of the Board of Trustees meeting due to logistical challenges.
With the nomination process now underway, the PDP says it is focused on strengthening its structures and positioning itself for a strong outing in the 2027 general elections.
