The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate investigation and prosecution of Mr. Nafiu Bala Gombe following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) rejection of his claims that he gained access to the commission’s nomination portal and uploaded candidates for the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement dated
July 14, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary,
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC commended INEC for swiftly clarifying that the document circulated by Nafiu Bala was
forged and that his claims were entirely false.
According to the party, the incident goes beyond political misinformation and constitutes a serious attempt to undermine the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral management body. ADC argued that falsely claiming access to INEC’s secured nomination platform could erode public confidence in the nation’s democratic process and create unnecessary political tension.
The party urged INEC to immediately refer the matter to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for a thorough investigation and possible prosecution of all individuals involved in originating or spreading the alleged falsehood.
ADC stressed that the issue is not merely about the party but about safeguarding the integrity of national institutions and ensuring that those who deliberately spread forged documents and false claims are held accountable under the law.
The opposition party warned that failure to take decisive action could establish a dangerous precedent, encouraging others to make similar false claims capable of creating confusion, inflaming political tensions, and weakening public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, and peaceful political competition, the ADC expressed confidence that the relevant authorities would act decisively to protect the credibility of INEC and preserve public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.
