Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Lagos State have been urged to remain united and support the party’s governorship candidate, His Excellency Dr. Naheem Abiodun Balogun, following the successful conclusion of the party’s 2026 governorship primary election.
In a statement issued on behalf of concerned party members, it was emphasized that elections are a democratic process designed to reflect the will and choice of the people. The statement called on all stakeholders to uphold the principles of transparency, fairness, and integrity while rejecting every form of godfatherism capable of undermining internal party democracy.
According to the statement, Dr. Balogun demonstrated widespread acceptance among party delegates during the primary election, reportedly securing victories in 15 out of the 20 local government areas, while his opponent won in the remaining five.
The statement further appealed to individuals spreading misinformation about the primary election to respect the outcome of the democratic process and allow the party to move forward in unity.
It also maintained that Dr. Balogun emerged through a process conducted in line with the relevant electoral guidelines governing party primaries and described him as a credible candidate with a proven record of service to humanity.
Party leaders, members, and supporters were encouraged to rally behind Dr. Balogun’s candidacy, stressing that collective support and unity would strengthen the party’s chances of delivering quality leadership and sustainable development for Lagos State.
The statement concluded with a call for all party faithful to place the interests of Lagos above personal ambitions and work together towards building a greater and more prosperous state.
