The tragic death of 20-year-old Nigerian TikToker, Favour Agbro, has continued to generate widespread grief and national outrage, with renewed calls for justice, accountability, and stronger support for victims of sexual violence across Nigeria.
According to reports, Favour allegedly died by suicide after accusing a 44-year-old content creator, popularly known as Odogwu of Asaba, of rape. Before her death, she reportedly shared emotional videos detailing the trauma she said she endured, drawing sympathy and concern from thousands of Nigerians on social media.
The suspect has reportedly been arrested and remains in police custody while investigations continue. A statement attributed to him, which has circulated online, reads: “I am sorry. This is a very terrible mistake. I am ready to give everything,” as he allegedly appealed to the victim’s family. Adding to the public concern, Favour’s parents have appealed for urgent assistance, alleging that they are facing overwhelming financial hardship in the aftermath of their daughter’s death. In an emotional video shared by their pro bono lawyer, Awele Ideal, the family disclosed that they are burdened with over ₦7 million in medical bills incurred while trying to save Favour’s life.
Favour’s father also alleged that after recording their statements, police requested that he provide a vehicle to transport officers to Benin City for aspects of the investigation. He appealed to the public for support, saying he currently lacks the financial means to meet the request.
The allegation has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning whether grieving families should bear logistical costs associated with criminal investigations.
