Lagostrend report that the Lagos State has taken another significant step towards strengthening climate resilience with the official launch of the Climate Defense and Catalytic Fund (CDCF), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at mobilizing private investment and accelerating sustainable climate projects across the state.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Climate Finance Leadership and Recognition Night, where the fund was formally unveiled before government officials, development partners, investors, and key stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Hamzat reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to building a climate-resilient Lagos capable of withstanding the growing impacts of climate change while fostering sustainable economic development.
The Climate Defense and Catalytic Fund (CDCF) is a dedicated financing mechanism established to pool resources and attract private-sector investment into critical local climate resilience projects. The initiative is expected to support innovative solutions that protect communities, strengthen public infrastructure, and promote environmental sustainability across Lagos State.
Dr. Hamzat emphasized that safeguarding communities and critical infrastructure requires more than policy commitments, stressing the importance of leveraging substantial financial resources through strategic partnerships with the private sector.
He noted that the launch of the CDCF reflects Lagos State’s continued leadership in climate action and sustainable development, adding that the government remains focused on implementing practical solutions that will secure a safer and more resilient future for present and future generations.
The Climate Finance Leadership and Recognition Night also celebrated outstanding contributions by stakeholders advancing climate finance and environmental sustainability, reinforcing the collective commitment to driving climate-smart investments across Lagos.
With the launch of the CDCF, Lagos has further positioned itself as a national leader in climate innovation, demonstrating its resolve to attract investment, strengthen resilience, and create a sustainable future for all residents.
