Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Thursday, Senator Fadeyi confirmed his return to the PDP, stating that he has formally communicated his decision to the Senate. He also declared that he is now the PDP’s candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 Senate election.
According to the lawmaker, his return to the PDP is under the leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Nyesom Wike. He expressed confidence in the party’s direction and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Osun Central.
Explaining the reason behind his resignation from the APC, Senator Fadeyi cited dissatisfaction with the conduct of the party’s 2027 National Assembly primary election for Osun Central, where he lost the APC ticket to Mr. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).
In his resignation letter addressed to the Senate, Fadeyi stated that his decision followed careful consideration. He recalled that he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home within Osun Central Senatorial District but decided to part ways with the party over developments surrounding its internal primary process.
The latest defection adds another dimension to the evolving political landscape in Osun State as parties continue to realign and position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
