Renewed Hope for Education as UBEC, Lagos Flag Off Distribution of 15,675 Learning Materials to Public Primary Schools
The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has officially flagged off the distribution of 15,675 educational materials to public primary schools across the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in Lagos State, reinforcing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for quality education.
The distribution ceremony, held on Thursday at the LASUBEB Multi-Purpose Hall in Maryland, Ikeja, also featured the rollout of HOPE EDU Teaching and Learning Materials for Early Childhood Care, Development and Education (ECCDE) and Integrated Qur’anic Tsangaya Education (IQTE), aimed at improving teaching quality and enhancing learning outcomes in public schools.
Representing the Executive Secretary of UBEC, the South-West Zonal Director, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Okei, described the initiative as a significant step towards ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality, inclusive and equitable basic education. She explained that the intervention reflects UBEC’s statutory responsibility to strengthen the Universal Basic Education Programme, improve accountability and raise educational standards nationwide.
According to her, UBEC is distributing millions of instructional materials across the country, including textbooks, exercise books, school bags, sandals, writing materials and sports equipment, to encourage school enrolment, reduce the number of out-of-school children and ease the financial burden on parents. She also applauded the Lagos State Government for its unwavering commitment to advancing basic education.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, expressed appreciation to UBEC for its continued support and strategic partnership in transforming the education sector in Lagos. He described the donated materials as vital investments that would strengthen classroom instruction, empower teachers and provide pupils with the resources needed for improved academic performance.
Dr. Shittu reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration to providing every child in Lagos State with free, quality and accessible basic education through sustained investment in teaching and learning resources.
Also addressing participants, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, said the intervention further demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Federal Government, UBEC and the Lagos State Government in building a stronger education system.
He urged education managers, school administrators and teachers to ensure the transparent and judicious use of the materials, stressing that accountability and effective monitoring are essential to ensuring the resources reach the intended beneficiaries and deliver measurable improvements in learning outcomes.
Alli-Balogun added that the initiative would not only improve the teaching and learning environment in public primary schools but also advance the collective vision of building an inclusive, equitable and globally competitive basic education system where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic presentation of the educational materials to selected pupils, officially marking the commencement of distribution to public primary schools across all 20 Local Government Education Authorities in Lagos State.
