Police Summon Former Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Deputy Rector Over Alleged Assault, Threats Against Ex-Student

The Bauchi State Police Command has summoned the former Deputy Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Dr. Dalhatu Sa’idu Abubakar, for questioning over allegations of physical assault, criminal intimidation, unlawful seizure of a mobile phone, and threats against a former student, Nuhu Nazif Muhammad. According to reports, the invitation followed a formal petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police by Baushe Chambers, legal representatives of Muhammad, who graduated from the Department of Mass Communication and served as President of the Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA) during the 2024/2025 academic session. The case has reportedly been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Bauchi State Police Headquarters for investigation. Sources disclosed that investigators have adopted the complainant’s official statement and initiated the necessary legal process. Reports indicate that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) contacted Dr. Abubakar after reviewing the petition and evidence presented. The former Deputy Rector reportedly informed the police that he was out of town and was subsequently directed to appear before the VCRU for interrogation. The dispute is said to have originated from Muhammad’s efforts to obtain his Higher National Diploma (HND) result and certificate, which he claimed were required to complete an international scholarship application for postgraduate studies. His legal team alleged that instead of receiving his academic documents, he was issued an expulsion letter despite having completed his programme. In a separate petition to the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Muhammad’s lawyers challenged the legality of the expulsion, arguing that it was carried out without due process or adherence to the principles of fair hearing. They called on the institution’s management to investigate the circumstances surrounding the decision and the withholding of his academic records. With the police investigation now underway, attention is focused on the outcome of the inquiry as authorities examine the allegations and determine the appropriate next steps in accordance with the law. The Bauchi State Police Command has yet to publicly announce the findings of its investigation, and the allegations remain under investigation.
