Lagos Clarifies: No Restriction on Movement During Monthly Environmental Sanitation — Wahab

  The Lagos State Government has clarified that there is no restriction on human or vehicular movement during the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise. The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, made the clarification while addressing public concerns over reports of arrests during sanitation hours. He stressed that any arrest made solely on the basis of movement during the sanitation exercise is unlawful and not supported by the state government’s policy. Wahab explained that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise is aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment across Lagos State, urging residents to actively participate by cleaning their homes, surroundings, and business premises. He emphasized that enforcement officers are expected to focus on ensuring environmental compliance rather than restricting movement, adding that the government remains committed to protecting the rights of residents while encouraging environmental responsibility. The Commissioner also called on members of the public to disregard false information suggesting that movement restrictions are in force during the sanitation exercise, reaffirming that Lagos residents are free to go about their lawful activities while observing proper sanitation practices. The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean and livable environment through public cooperation, continuous environmental awareness, and effective waste management initiatives.
