Lagostrend report that the Ikeja Youth Centre came alive with vibrant conversations, fresh ideas, and a shared commitment to a safer Lagos as youths, security experts, government officials, and community leaders gathered for the Lagos State Youth Multi-Stakeholders Security Summit.
The summit, organised by the Coalition of Nigeria Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), focused on empowering young people to become active partners in promoting peace and tackling insecurity across the state. The event was themed “The Role of Lagos State Youth in Complementing Security Agencies’ Efforts Against Social Vices.”
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adeshino Bamidele Lawal, challenged young people to redirect their energy toward peace, productivity, and community development.
Speaking on the topic, “Redirecting Youth Energy from Crime to Peace and Community Development,” DCP Lawal stressed that the future of society depends on how well its young people are guided. He noted that with proper mentorship, direction, and opportunities, youths can become agents of positive change rather than instruments of crime.
He encouraged participants to remain focused, hardworking, and committed to nation-building while avoiding activities capable of destroying their future. According to him, every young person has the potential to contribute meaningfully to the growth and security of Lagos State.
The senior police officer also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights. He called on officers to continue strengthening public trust through ethical conduct and quality service delivery.
Addressing the growing influence of social media, DCP Lawal urged youths to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic. Instead, he advised them to promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to security agencies, noting that timely information remains one of the most effective tools in crime prevention.
Other notable speakers, including Dr. Adebari Emmanuel and several security stakeholders, also charged participants to resist negative peer pressure, uphold integrity, and embrace discipline as the foundation for responsible leadership and community development.
The summit concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to work closely with security agencies in promoting peace, combating social vices, and creating safer communities across Lagos State. The gathering reinforced the belief that young people are not only the future of society but also critical partners in building a secure and prosperous Lagos.
