The political landscape in Gombe State continues to witness significant realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, as the Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe Local Government Area, Hon. Babangida Usman, popularly known as Babangida Ventures, has officially resigned from the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Babangida confirmed that he had stepped down from his position as ADC Local Government Secretary before formally declaring his membership of the PDP, citing his support for the governorship ambition of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.
Speaking on his decision, the former ADC official said he was convinced that Professor Pantami possesses the experience, competence, and visionary leadership needed to take Gombe State to greater heights. He described the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy as a credible leader with the capacity to drive sustainable development and deliver meaningful progress across the state.
According to Babangida, his decision to join the PDP reflects his commitment to contributing to the success of Pantami’s governorship bid and to the overall development of Gombe State.
The latest defection adds to the growing wave of political support for Professor Pantami following his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate. In recent weeks, several politicians, stakeholders, and supporters from different political parties have declared their backing for his 2027 governorship ambition, signaling increasing momentum ahead of the election.
Political observers believe that the continued influx of members from other parties into the PDP could reshape the political dynamics in Gombe State as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather pace.
Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami is expected to lead the PDP into the 2027 governorship contest, where he will seek the mandate of the people of Gombe State.
