Obasa Directs Agege, Orile-Agege Councils to Commence Constitution of Executive Cabinets

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has reportedly directed the Chairmen of Agege Local Government Area, Vinod Obasa, and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Idowu Akinola, to begin the process of constituting the executive committees of their respective councils. The development comes after both councils remained the only two among Lagos State’s 57 local government councils yet to commence the constitution of their executive cabinets, more than four months after receiving the list of nominees from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government Affairs. According to reports, the decision signals an end to the prolonged delay in inaugurating the executive committees in the two councils. Political observers believe the move could pave the way for improved administrative coordination and governance at the grassroots level. Reports have also suggested that the delay had been linked to internal political disagreements within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly over the distribution and confirmation of political appointments. However, these claims have not been officially confirmed by Speaker Obasa. The latest directive is expected to enable both councils to complete the confirmation process and swear in their Secretaries to the Local Government (SLGs) and other executive appointees, bringing them in line with the other 55 councils across the state. The move is being viewed by many political stakeholders as a step toward strengthening local government administration and ensuring that the affected councils operate with fully constituted executive teams capable of delivering effective governance and public service.
