In a candid revelation, the eldest son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti recounted an incident in which he allegedly caught one of his former partners engaging in an intimate phone conversation with another man—inside his own home. According to Femi Kuti, the woman believed he was away, unaware that he was observing the situation unfold.
“She sat in my private chair and put her legs on my table, saying, ‘I love you darling, I miss you,’” Kuti recalled. He emphasized the cultural and personal significance of the chair, noting that no one sat on it out of respect for him. The moment, he said, struck deeply as a symbol of both emotional and personal disrespect.
When confronted, the woman reportedly denied speaking to another man, insisting it was merely a friend. However, Kuti said her refusal to hand over the phone raised further suspicion. Upon eventually accessing the device and dialing the same number, a man answered and immediately responded, “I miss you too, darling,” confirming his fears.
The revelation reportedly left the musician devastated. Matters took a more serious turn when, amid circulating rumors within the Shrine community questioning the paternity of one of the children, Kuti’s sister advised him to consider DNA testing—for his peace of mind and the security of the Kuti family.
According to Femi Kuti, his request for a DNA test was initially met with resistance. However, when the test was eventually conducted, the results revealed that two of the children he had believed were his were not biologically his.
