Yola, Adamawa State — Nigeria’s political landscape witnessed a major realignment on Monday as Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), boldly declaring that no party or candidate can stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Abba Atiku made the declaration shortly after collecting his APC membership card at Gwadabawa Ward, Yola North Local Government Area, a move that has further energized the ruling party and intensified national political conversations.

Explaining his decision, Abba said he was convinced by what he described as strong economic policies and people-centered reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration. According to him, Nigerians are already witnessing a leadership style anchored on competence, inclusiveness, and meritocracy, rather than religion, ethnicity, or regional considerations.

He commended President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development and human capital growth across the country, stressing that these policies are laying a solid foundation for sustainable national progress. Abba urged Nigerians to support the president beyond partisan interests, noting that national development should remain the collective goal.

Calling on APC members to intensify mobilisation efforts, Abba expressed confidence that sustained support would enable President Tinubu to consolidate and extend his reform agenda well beyond 2027.

Reacting to the defection, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, described the development as a major boost for the party, stating that Abba Atiku’s move had effectively erased doubts about APC’s strength and prospects in the next general election.

Another APC chieftain in the state, Alhaji Jamil Yusuf, echoed similar sentiments, describing President Tinubu as politically unbeatable, while dismissing potential challengers as lacking the credibility and national appeal required to unseat him.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is currently associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a presidential aspirant, although none of his sons are members of the party.

Abba Atiku’s defection is widely seen as a symbolic and strategic shift, adding fresh momentum to the APC and underscoring President Tinubu’s growing influence as the countdown to 2027 begins.
