The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has hosted a Ramadan Lecture Series at the Odoragunshin Central Mosque, bringing together Islamic scholars, community leaders, and Muslim faithful from across Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for spiritual reflection and guidance during the holy month of Ramadan.

The well-attended lecture, held in the spirit of devotion and community engagement, focused on the changing state of the world and the moral responsibilities of individuals and leaders in society. Islamic scholars at the gathering highlighted several signs of moral decline in modern society and urged Muslims to strengthen their faith, remain steadfast in righteous living, and uphold the teachings of the Qur’an.

During the lecture, clerics explained that the Qur’an foretells various signs that will occur before the end of the world, noting that many unusual and unexpected events witnessed globally today should serve as a reminder for believers to return to the path of righteousness and deepen their relationship with God.

The scholars also discussed the concept of “Irole Aye,” describing it as the gradual moral decline of the world. According to them, behaviors once considered unacceptable are increasingly becoming normalized in society. They expressed concern over rising social challenges, including indecent dressing among youths and the growing exposure of children to harmful habits such as smoking in public places.

The event also featured the presence of the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Sadallah Abiola Abdulrahman, alongside other respected members of the League of Imams and Alfas across Eredo LCDA, who joined the faithful in prayers and spiritual reflections.

Speaking during an interview with LagosTrend, Islamic scholar Sheikh Abdulwasi emphasized the importance of faithfulness to God and urged Muslims to embrace forgiveness, particularly during the sacred period of Ramadan.

He explained that Ramadan provides a unique opportunity for self-examination, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal, encouraging believers to forgive one another and strengthen unity within their communities.

Another major issue discussed during the lecture was the challenge of poor leadership in society. Speakers lamented that some individuals entrusted with leadership responsibilities often divert public resources meant for development and the welfare of the people. They therefore called on leaders at all levels to demonstrate integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to public service.

The clerics also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to guide the younger generation toward good moral values, stressing that the future of society largely depends on the discipline, faith, and character of its youth.

Participants at the lecture expressed appreciation to Senator Abiru for organizing the programme, noting that the initiative has created a platform that promotes spiritual growth, moral reflection, and unity among Muslims in Eredo LCDA.

The Ramadan Lecture Series is expected to continue serving as an avenue for enlightenment, prayer, and community engagement throughout the holy month.
