The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has clarified that the Federal Government has not approved Adire as the new official uniform for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The clarification follows media reports suggesting that the minister had announced the replacement of the NYSC’s traditional khaki uniform with Adire during a television interview.
Speaking on the development, Olawande explained that his comments were misunderstood, noting that Adire and Ankara were only mentioned as examples of proposals being considered as part of ongoing consultations on reforms to the NYSC scheme.
He stated that the government is currently evaluating various options based on key considerations, including professional appearance, durability, functionality, cost-effectiveness, national identity, and support for local industries.
According to the minister, no final decision has been taken regarding the fabric or design of any new NYSC uniform.
He added that the objective of the ongoing review is to identify a uniform that reflects national pride while meeting practical and professional standards.
The Federal Government has assured that any decision on the NYSC uniform will be made only after a comprehensive evaluation of all proposals under consideration.
