Davido: Adeleke’s Osun Victory Was A ‘War’ Against 17 Govs, 50 Senators

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the re-election victory of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the 2026 governorship election as a hard-fought “war” against a formidable political opposition.
Davido, while celebrating the governor’s victory, commended Adeleke for overcoming what he described as an overwhelming array of political forces during the election.
“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good,” the singer said, according to Punch Newspapers.
The music star also praised the people of Osun State for their determination to defend their votes from the polling units through the collation process.
According to Davido, the massive support received by the Adeleke family during the election deeply moved him, revealing that he became emotional several times on election day.

“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.
Davido further described Governor Adeleke’s victory as a lesson for political leaders across the country, stressing that leaders who genuinely work for the people can earn their trust and support at the polls.
“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” he added, according to New Telegraph.
The singer expressed appreciation to the people of Osun State for standing firmly behind Governor Adeleke and the Adeleke family, despite the challenges and intense political contest surrounding the election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke secured re-election in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Davido had remained actively supportive of his uncle throughout the campaign and repeatedly encouraged voters to protect their ballots and participate actively in the democratic process.
Beyond politics, the Afrobeats star also disclosed plans to contribute to youth and sports development in Osun State through his role as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
He said plans were underway for the development of a recreational centre equipped with football fields, swimming pools and basketball courts, aimed at providing young people with opportunities to discover, develop and showcase their talents.
Davido’s comments have further placed the spotlight on the significance of youth participation, good governance and people-centred leadership in Nigeria’s democratic development.
The singer’s message was ultimately one of gratitude to the people of Osun State and a call for political leaders to remain committed to serving the people who entrusted them with public office.
