Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has declared his support for the proposed Rainbow Coalition championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expressing his readiness to mobilise political stakeholders across party lines ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okorocha made the declaration while commending Wike for promoting the idea of a Rainbow Coalition, which he described as a platform capable of bringing together members of different political parties to pursue a common political objective.
The former governor disclosed that he would return to Imo State to commence the coalition’s activities, with plans to bring together members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
According to Okorocha, achieving the coalition’s objective would require political sacrifices, including some individuals stepping down from positions in the interest of a collective goal.
He further took a swipe at the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, declaring that he does not believe the governor has the political strength to lead the state to the desired level of development.
In a pointed political remark, Okorocha said Hope Uzodimma’s influence was more prominent in Abuja than in Imo State.
The declaration comes amid renewed political tensions between the two prominent Imo politicians, particularly following the recent Federal High Court judgment concerning the APC senatorial candidacy for Imo West.
Okorocha’s endorsement of the Rainbow Coalition signals a fresh political development in Imo State and could reshape conversations around party alliances and the 2027 electoral contest.
