Ibagwa-Aka Ancient Kingdom Set to Celebrate 2026 New Yam Festival in Grand Style

Lagostrend report that the people of Ibagwa-Aka Ancient Kingdom in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State are set to celebrate their rich cultural heritage, unity and thanksgiving as the community hosts its annual New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji Ohuu) on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The festival, hosted at the palace of HRH Igwe Sir Dr. Hyacinth I. Eze, Eze Chukwudebelu II of Ibagwa-Aka Ancient Kingdom and Grand Patron, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, is expected to bring together sons and daughters of Ibagwa-Aka, Ndi Enugu, friends, well-wishers and visitors from across the country.
The annual celebration is a cherished cultural tradition that provides an opportunity for the people to give thanks for the year’s harvest, celebrate the fruits of their labour and strengthen the bonds of unity, peace and togetherness within the community.
The New Yam Festival, popularly known as Iri-Ji Ohuu, remains an important symbol of Igbo cultural identity, reflecting the people’s deep appreciation for agriculture, ancestral heritage and communal values.
In his invitation, Igwe Hyacinth I. Eze warmly called on all sons and daughters of Ibagwa-Aka, Ndi Enugu, friends, well-wishers and members of the general public to join the community for the colourful celebration.
