The old students of Army Children High School, Epe, have continued activities marking the institution’s 45th anniversary with a series of impactful programmes, including an inter-school quiz and debate competition as well as a medical outreach for members of the Epe community.
Lagostrend reports that the Day Two activities brought together students from various secondary schools across Epe Division, providing an opportunity for young people to demonstrate their knowledge, confidence, critical thinking, public speaking and intellectual abilities.
The anniversary programmes also extended beyond academics, with the medical outreach providing members of the community with access to basic health checks and medical attention.
Speaking on the medical outreach, one of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the old students of Army Children High School for organising the initiative, describing it as a significant intervention for the community.
She said the programme provided an opportunity for residents to check their health status and expressed satisfaction that the old students had considered the health needs of members of the community as part of the anniversary celebration.
According to her, the initiative was particularly commendable because, in her experience, she had not seen another school in Epe Division organise a similar medical outreach as part of its anniversary activities.
Fountain Comprehensive College Wins Quiz Competition
The inter-school quiz competition also provided an exciting academic contest among participating schools.
At the end of the competition, Fountain Comprehensive College emerged in first position, while Imole Comprehensive College came second and Epe Grammar School secured third position.
Army Children High School finished fourth, followed by Nazareth College in fifth position, Ogunmodede College in sixth, Iskanul Haq School in seventh and Alaro Community School in eighth position.
The participating schools were rewarded with cash prizes as part of the anniversary activities.
Fountain Comprehensive College, which emerged winner, received ₦150,000, while Imole Comprehensive College, the second-place winner, received ₦100,000.
The other participating schools received ₦50,000 each.
Army Children High School Emerges Winner of Debate Competition
The inter-school debate competition was also keenly contested, with students displaying impressive confidence, research ability, reasoning and public speaking skills.
Army Children High School emerged winner of the debate competition with 44.6 points, while Odomola High School finished second with 42.6 points.
Alaro Community High School secured third position with 41.3 points, while Epe Grammar School came fourth with 39.6 points.
Other participating schools recorded the following scores:
- Nazareth College — 36.3 points — 5th position
- Ogunmodede College — 34.3 points — 6th position
- D Guidance Comprehensive College — 27.3 points — 7th position
- Fountain Comprehensive College — 26.6 points — 8th position
The results highlighted the strong intellectual participation of students from different schools across the division and created an avenue for healthy academic interaction among the participants.

Head Boy Appreciates Old Students, Teachers
Speaking with journalists after the competition, the Head Boy of Army Children High School expressed appreciation to the old students for organising the academic programme and providing students with the opportunity to participate in such an intellectually engaging competition.
He also thanked God Almighty for the school’s victory in the debate competition, while appreciating the Principal and teachers of the school for their confidence and support.
The Head Boy noted that the support and encouragement from the school management and teachers contributed to the students’ confidence and preparation for the competition.

Pioneer Student Commends Students
Speaking during the event, Alhaji Uthman, a pioneer student of Army Children High School, commended the students for their impressive performances during the quiz and debate competitions.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of confidence, knowledge and intellectual ability displayed by the students, noting that academic competitions such as quizzes and debates could contribute significantly to developing students’ communication skills, confidence and capacity to take on future responsibilities.
Alhaji Uthman also appealed to the management of the winning school to ensure that part of the prize money received is extended to the students who participated in the competition.
He described such support as an important way of motivating students and encouraging them to continue participating in academic competitions.
Celebrating 45 Years of Heritage and Impact
The academic competitions and medical outreach formed part of activities organised by the Army Children High School old students to commemorate the institution’s 45-year journey and celebrate its contributions to education and youth development in Epe and beyond.
The anniversary is being celebrated under the theme:
“One Family • One Heritage • One Identity”
with the slogan:
“ARISE & SHINE.”
The celebration is expected to continue with football and other sporting activities, alongside programmes aimed at strengthening unity and interaction among students, teachers, old students, parents and other stakeholders within the Army Children High School community.
The anniversary activities are expected to culminate with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, providing members of the school community with an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s 45-year journey, celebrate its achievements and express gratitude for its continued impact.
The Day Two activities have further demonstrated the academic talents of students in Epe Division while highlighting the commitment of the Army Children High School old students to education, community development, youth empowerment and social responsibility.
The combination of academic competitions and the medical outreach also underscored the broader vision of the anniversary celebration — not only to commemorate the school’s heritage but also to make a meaningful contribution to the present and future of the Epe community.
