Lagostrend report that the Federal High Court in Abuja has reportedly nullified the nomination of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 2027.
In a judgment reportedly delivered on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that the evidence presented before the court established that former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, won the APC senatorial primary election conducted on May 18, 2026.
The court subsequently directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Okorocha and publish his name as the party’s authentic candidate for the forthcoming senatorial election.
The ruling marks a significant legal development in the APC’s nomination process in Imo West, bringing renewed attention to the internal processes governing candidate selection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The judgment also places the spotlight on the roles of political parties and electoral institutions in ensuring that candidate nominations comply with applicable electoral laws and judicial decisions.
As the political landscape in Imo West continues to evolve, the implementation of the court’s directive by INEC and any subsequent legal steps by the affected parties will be important in determining the final position of the APC on the senatorial ticket.
The development underscores the importance of internal party democracy, transparent primary elections and respect for the rule of law in Nigeria’s democratic process.
