Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has voiced deep disappointment over the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As reported by Lagostrend, George described the defection as deeply shocking and questioned the rationale behind Oborevwori’s sudden political shift. The announcement reportedly followed a high-level, closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday evening
Oborevwori, elected under the PDP platform, officially pledged his allegiance to the APC—a move that has sent political shockwaves across Delta State and beyond.
Reacting to the development, Bode George said he found it incomprehensible that both Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who rose to power under the PDP, would align themselves with what he called an “unstructured” party
“I am shell-shocked,” George said. “How can governors from a well-organized party like the PDP defect to an APC that is being run autocratically by just two individuals—Tinubu and Ganduje?”
He went further to warn Deltans against following Oborevwori into the APC, declaring, “Delta has been a PDP stronghold since 1999, and it must remain that way.
George also accused the APC and the Presidency of using state apparatus to pressure PDP governors into defecting, alleging threats and coercion.
Oborevwori was a PDP product—sponsored, supported, and elected under our platform. If he has turned his back on the party, then he must vacate that office,” George insisted.
“This plot to turn Nigeria into a one-party dictatorship will not succeed. Since 2015, what meaningful change has APC delivered to justify these defections?”
