Agege Local Government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to educational excellence as the newly appointed Education Secretary, Hajia Jannat Bashorun, alongside members of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Agege Local Government, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, at the Council Secretariat.
The visit, led by SUBEB Board Member, Hon. Sherifat Adedoyin, formally introduced Hajia Jannat Bashorun as the new Education Secretary for Agege. In her remarks, Hajia Jannat expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to give her very best in setting, strengthening, and sustaining high educational standards across schools in the local government.
Hon. Sherifat Adedoyin, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the critical importance of securing school environments. She noted that improved security around school premises would significantly curb street hawking and prevent the presence of miscreants, thereby creating a safer and more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
The engagement reinforced a shared resolve among stakeholders to promote safe, orderly, and learner-friendly school environments that support improved academic outcomes for pupils in Agege.
Responding, the Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, reiterated that education remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.
“Education remains a critical pillar of our development agenda, and we will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen standards, safety, and outcomes in our schools,” Obasa said.
He welcomed Hajia Jannat Bashorun to her new role and assured her of the council’s full cooperation and support.
“I welcome Hajia Jannat Bashorun to this vital role and assure her of our administration’s full support in advancing educational excellence. We remain committed to improving infrastructure, enhancing learning outcomes, and creating safe, inspiring spaces for our children,” he added.
The chairman further stressed that strong leadership and secure environments are essential to quality education.
“Quality education begins with quality leadership and secure environments. We’re building both,” Obasa stated.
The visit marks another step in Agege Local Government’s ongoing collaboration with SUBEB and education stakeholders to deliver sustainable progress, safety, and excellence in basic education across the council area.
