Lagostrend report that the Eko Progressive Youth (EPY) has successfully held its inaugural meeting, marking a significant step toward uniting and empowering young people across Lagos State.
The meeting commenced at 12:15pm with an opening prayer delivered by Yaya Abayomi Rilwan from Oshodi-Isolo, Lagos West Senatorial District, setting a tone of unity and inclusiveness.
In his welcome address, Convener Hon. JK Awoyale warmly received State Executives, Local Government Coordinators, and volunteers, commending their commitment to youth development and grassroots impact. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in advancing the emancipation and progress of Lagos youths across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
A defining moment of the gathering was the unveiling of the EPY slogan: “EPY! Build The Youth! Build The Community!”—a rallying call designed to foster identity, unity, and purpose among members.
The orientation session highlighted the movement’s vision to serve as a platform for youth inclusion, empowerment, and active participation in governance. EPY aims to connect youths across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos, amplify their voices, and engage the state government to ensure youth-friendly policies and opportunities.
The Director of Mobilization, Hon. Adara Stephen Abiodun, provided deeper insights into the movement’s structure and objectives, describing EPY as an inclusive platform that encourages contributions from all members. He assured attendees of leadership’s commitment to prioritizing members’ interests through various empowerment initiatives.
Contributions from stakeholders further enriched the discussions. Mr. Adelaja Idris Abiodun of Ojodu-Berger LCDA spoke on aligning with the movement’s master plan, while Hon. Adebayo from Agboyi-Ketu emphasized the need for a centralized executive structure to ensure inclusiveness.
The Vice Chairman reiterated the need for dedication and active participation from all members to drive the movement forward. Additionally, plans for EPY’s structural formation were disclosed, with assurances that leadership positions will reflect the three senatorial districts of Lagos State.
The State Secretary, Comrade Adeyemi Habeeb Adesanya, urged members to work collaboratively, recommending the creation of digital platforms such as WhatsApp groups to mobilize and engage more youths. He also stressed the importance of forming LGA and ward executives capable of partnering with private organizations and government agencies for youth empowerment initiatives.
State Coordinator, Alhaji Raji Abidoye, commended the Convener’s vision and selfless dedication to youth liberation. He outlined key objectives and upcoming programs aimed at benefiting members, while calling for unwavering support from coordinators to actualize the movement’s goals.
Several practical resolutions were adopted during the meeting, including the preparation of official recognition and introduction letters to local government chairmen and the All Progressives Congress (APC) across LCDAs. Members also advocated for leadership structures at the ward level to enhance grassroots engagement.
Notably, leadership training programs will be organized across the senatorial districts to build capacity among members. The event also featured the presentation of certificates to LGA and LCDA coordinators present.
The meeting concluded at 2:30pm with a vote of thanks delivered by the State Coordinator, followed by a closing prayer, reflecting the movement’s spirit of unity and shared purpose.
