The Badagry Division has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic collapse of a three-storey building at Alakija in Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, which claimed the lives of nine people and left several others injured.
In a statement issued on behalf of the political leadership, traditional institutions, and the people of the Badagry Division, the Division extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a painful tragedy that has left the entire Division in mourning.
The statement prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the bereaved families, urging them to remain steadfast during this difficult period. It also wished the injured survivors a speedy recovery.
The Badagry Division commended the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, security agencies, medical personnel, and other emergency responders for their swift intervention, professionalism, and coordinated rescue efforts, which led to the successful rescue of 27 victims from the collapsed structure.
According to the statement, the unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for strict compliance with building regulations, structural integrity standards, and effective monitoring to prevent similar disasters and protect lives and property across Lagos State.
The Division reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Oriade LCDA, assuring all those affected of its thoughts and prayers during this period of grief.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may Almighty God grant speedy recovery to the injured while comforting everyone affected by this tragic incident,” the statement concluded.
The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, Secretary of the Badagry Division, and Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government.
