The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and flood-free environment following the arrest of a 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.
The arrest was carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce and was announced on Tuesday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through his official social media platform.
According to the Commissioner, indiscriminate disposal of waste into drainage channels remains a serious violation of Lagos State environmental laws, as it contributes significantly to blocked drains, flooding, environmental degradation, and public health risks.
Wahab stressed that the Lagos State Government will continue to strictly enforce environmental regulations to safeguard lives, property, and the environment. He warned that anyone found engaging in illegal waste disposal or any act capable of undermining the state’s environmental sanitation efforts would face the full weight of the law.
He further urged residents to support the government’s drive for a cleaner Lagos by disposing of waste responsibly and patronising only approved waste management operators.
The latest arrest serves as a strong reminder of the government’s zero-tolerance stance against environmental violations and underscores its determination to build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Lagos for all residents.
Residents are encouraged to remain environmentally conscious, protect public infrastructure, and work collectively with the government in preserving drainage channels and ensuring a sustainable environment across the state.
