Lagos State Government Presents Staff of Office to New Onise of Ise Kingdom

The Lagos State Government has formally presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to His Royal Majesty, Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu, the newly installed Onise of Ise Kingdom in Lekki Local Council Development Area, marking the official commencement of his reign.
The historic ceremony, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, was performed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, with the approval of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Lagos State Executive Council.
The appointment followed the transition of the late Oba Ganiu Adebowale Adegbesan, the former Onise of Ise Kingdom.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Agbaje congratulated the new monarch and urged him to make peace, unity, reconciliation and inclusive development the defining pillars of his reign.
He stressed the significant role of traditional institutions in fostering peace, stability and grassroots development, while encouraging the monarch to extend the hand of fellowship to all members of the royal families and unite the people of Ise Kingdom irrespective of differences.
According to him, the new Onise should use his experience, wisdom and position to promote cooperation and collective progress, expressing confidence that his reign would bring renewed peace and prosperity to the kingdom.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, warmly received the royal fathers, dignitaries, community leaders and residents who gathered for the occasion.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for approving the presentation of the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment, describing the gesture as further evidence of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening the traditional institution and advancing grassroots development.
The presentation of the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment formally signified the commencement of the reign of Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu as the Onise of Ise Kingdom, ushering in a new chapter in the history and development of the ancient community.
The colourful ceremony attracted prominent traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, community leaders, religious leaders and members of the public.
Among those in attendance were House of Assembly members representing Ibeju-Lekki I, Oshodi-Isolo II and Badagry II, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, Hon. Ladi Ajomale and Hon. Setonji Samuel David, respectively; Special Adviser for Works, Dr. Adekunle Olayinka; former Special Adviser on Energy, Engr. Abiola Olowu; former APC Chairman in Lagos State, Hon. Henry Ajomale; Member of the GAC, Epe Division, Alhaji Shakirudeen Akanni Seriki Bamu; Hon. Yahaya Dosumu; and several other dignitaries.
Also present were royal fathers including HRM Oba Moruf Atanda Oyekunle Oluwa, Olu of Iwa & Apapa; HRM Oba Waliu Rasaki Olasunkanmi, Onibeju of Ibeju; HRM Oba Kolawole Abdul-Lateef Kolawole Olumegbon, Oba Olumegbon of Ajah & Okun Aja; HRM Oba Ibrahim Lawal Olasunkanmi, Oba of Isheri Olofin; HRN Oba Mufutau Olanrewaju Adekunmi Idogun-Laarrys, Oba of Ogunfayo, as well as Chief Abdul-Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, Opeluwa of Lagos.
Members of the royal families, community leaders, religious leaders, residents and well-wishers of Ise Kingdom also turned out in large numbers to witness the historic occasion and celebrate the emergence of the new monarch.

The presentation represents not only the formal recognition of Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu as the Onise of Ise Kingdom, but also a renewed call for unity, peace and development as the kingdom begins a new era under his leadership.
