    The Lagos State House of Assembly has sustained its comprehensive audit of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), with the exercise entering its fourth day in a clear demonstration of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

    On Monday, officials from several councils appeared before the Assembly’s relevant committee to present financial records and respond to queries. Councils represented included Epe Local Government, Orile-Agege LCDA, Ejigbo LCDA, Eredo LCDA, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, and Ikeja Local Government.

    The ongoing audit is part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibility aimed at ensuring prudent management of public funds and adherence to financial regulations at the grassroots level. Lawmakers emphasized that the exercise is not only a statutory requirement but also a proactive step to strengthen governance structures across all 57 councils in the state.

    According to members of the committee, the audit process provides an opportunity to review financial performance, assess compliance with existing laws, and promote best practices in local administration. The Assembly reiterated its resolve to support councils in improving service delivery through effective monitoring and constructive engagement.

    Observers have described the exercise as a significant move toward reinforcing public trust in local government administration, ensuring that resources allocated for development projects and community services are judiciously utilized.

    The audit exercise is expected to continue on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as additional councils are scheduled to appear before the committee.

    The Lagos State House of Assembly has assured residents that it remains steadfast in its mission to uphold accountability and drive sustainable development across every community in the state.
