The All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly intensifying internal consultations as it considers adopting a consensus strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship elections in key South-West states, including Lagos State, Ogun State, and Oyo State.
Credible party sources indicate that prominent political figures are being positioned as potential consensus candidates to ensure unity and strengthen the party’s chances at the polls. Among those reportedly under consideration are Obafemi Hamzat for Lagos State, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola for Ogun State, and Oladipupo Olubunmi Alli for Oyo State.
The move toward consensus candidacy is seen as part of the APC’s broader strategy to avoid internal disputes and promote cohesion within its ranks, especially in states considered politically strategic. Party insiders suggest that ongoing consultations among stakeholders, leaders, and party faithful are aimed at reaching agreements that reflect both competence and wide acceptability.
In Lagos State, the possible emergence of Obafemi Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor, is viewed as a continuation of experienced leadership, given his longstanding involvement in governance and policy development. Similarly, in Ogun State, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola is believed to command significant grassroots support and legislative experience.
For Oyo State, Oladipupo Olubunmi Alli is also being considered as a strong contender, with party leaders reportedly assessing his political structure and capacity to unify stakeholders across the state.
While the party has yet to make any official announcement, political analysts note that adopting consensus candidates could help the APC minimize primary election tensions and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As consultations continue, party members and observers alike are keenly watching developments, with expectations that the APC will formalize its position in the coming months as preparations for the electoral cycle gather momentum.
Further updates are expected as the party leadership concludes its deliberations and unveils its strategic roadmap for the highly anticipated 2027 governorship contests.
