President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as part of a fresh round of appointments into key Federal Government agencies and commissions.
Fayose’s appointment is among 26 new appointments announced across 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, reflecting the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve the performance of critical public institutions.
As Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency, Fayose will lead the agency’s board alongside other members, including Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta. The REA is responsible for expanding access to reliable electricity in rural and underserved communities across Nigeria, a key component of the Federal Government’s drive for inclusive economic growth and national development.
In other notable appointments, Major General Junaid Bindawa was named Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission, while Dr. Abuh Mohammed was appointed as the Director-General of the National Population Commission.
According to the Presidency, all the appointments have taken immediate effect, underscoring President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning strategic government institutions with experienced leaders capable of driving policy implementation and delivering improved public service.
The appointment marks a significant transition for Ayodele Fayose, who served as Governor of Ekiti State, as he takes on a national leadership role in Nigeria’s power sector. His new responsibility comes at a time when the Rural Electrification Agency is expected to accelerate efforts to improve electricity access in rural communities, support economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for millions of Nigerians.
The latest appointments form part of the Tinubu administration’s broader agenda to strengthen institutional leadership, promote effective governance, and advance sustainable national development through competent leadership across key sectors.
