Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and ex-Senator, Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to stop what she described as a “spoiler role” within opposition politics and make a clear political choice.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Bucknor-Akerele expressed concern over Wike’s recent political activities, which she said are creating tension within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

According to her, political leaders must be transparent and decisive about their allegiance, especially at a time when unity within parties is critical for effective opposition and democratic stability.

She noted that if Wike aligns more closely with the ideology and direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he should formally join the ruling party rather than remain in the PDP while allegedly supporting another platform.

    > “He’s just playing the role of a spoiler and he should stop doing that and go to the party of his choice, which is APC,” she stated.

Bucknor-Akerele emphasized that remaining in one political party while openly identifying with another could create confusion among party members and weaken internal cohesion. She stressed that political competition should be grounded in loyalty, clarity, and commitment to shared goals.

She further explained that Wike’s continued presence in the opposition party, amid perceived divided loyalties, is fueling disagreements among members and undermining party unity.

According to the former senator, strong and organized political parties are essential for Nigeria’s democratic growth. She warned that persistent internal disputes could erode public confidence and weaken the opposition’s ability to effectively prepare for future elections.

Bucknor-Akerele concluded by urging party members across the political spectrum to prioritize unity, honesty, and ideological clarity in order to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and ensure political stability.
