His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, has participated in the National Assembly (NASS) Open Week 2026 following a special invitation from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON.
The two-day event, held at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, was themed “Three Years of the 10th Assembly: Advancing Transparency, Inclusion and Reform.” It provided an opportunity for lawmakers to present the third-year scorecard and performance review of the 10th House of Representatives while engaging citizens and stakeholders on legislative achievements and national development.
As one of the distinguished traditional rulers in attendance, Oba Ogunsanwo joined other eminent personalities in deliberating on critical issues affecting governance, accountability, and democratic growth in Nigeria.
A major highlight of the programme was the National Security Roundtable, where participants examined the country’s current security challenges, the role of the legislature in strengthening national security, and ongoing discussions surrounding the proposed State Police Bill, which seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution.
The participation of the Alara of Ilara Kingdom underscores the growing importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and democratic governance in promoting peace, unity, and sustainable national development.
The royal father’s presence at the high-profile event further reflects the recognition of traditional rulers as vital stakeholders in nation-building, policy dialogue, and community development.
The NASS Open Week 2026 reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th House of Representatives to transparency, inclusiveness, legislative reforms, and constructive engagement with Nigerians, while providing a platform for meaningful discussions on the country’s future.
